FAQs About ClearCorrect®

Clearcorrect Hackensack, NJ

ClearCorrect aligners are clear plastic aligners used to straighten teeth as an alternative to traditional braces. Like Invisalign, another clear aligner brand, ClearCorrect uses a tray of custom-made, removable clear aligners to straighten the teeth.

Frequently asked questions about ClearCorrect aligners

Some of the most frequently asked questions about ClearCorrect aligners include:

How do ClearCorrect aligners work?

ClearCorrect aligner treatment involves four phases of therapy. Each of the phases requires using a new set of aligners that are worn for three weeks. After wearing each aligner set, the results will be noticeable as the teeth begin slowly adjusting and aligning to the desired positions. The patient will be required to make periodic checkups with their dentist to evaluate their progress, and the patient will be given the next set of aligners. This sequence will continue until the teeth have reached the desired positions.

Who is a good candidate for ClearCorrect?

Many adults and teens are excellent candidates for invisible aligners like ClearCorrect. However, children are typically not as suitable for the treatment because their mouths are still growing. In addition, teeth in the earlier stages of development make the aligner process much more complex, reducing the likelihood of having positive final results.

Additionally, the candidates who achieve more successful results usually have mild to moderate crowding or spacing issues. Patients with severe crowding, underbites, overbites, or crossbites may need more aggressive treatment. In these cases, we may recommend another treatment followed by the ClearCorrect treatment.

How long does treatment last?

The treatment time for each patient depends on the severity of their condition, but it generally takes anywhere from one to two years. The number of sets of aligners necessary depends on the specific case. Some patients only need a few, while others may need more. We can give an estimate after examining the patient’s mouth.

What should I expect during treatment?

Wearing ClearCorrect aligners is generally not painful, but there will be brief periods of days when the aligners may cause the teeth to be uncomfortable. In addition, the patient’s bite will feel different from time to time while the teeth are in transition, and they may have a lisp at first while getting used to talking with the aligners on.

Will wearing the aligners hurt?

Most patients experience some sensitivity or tenderness for the first few days of wearing their new aligners. However, the more they wear the aligner, the more comfortable they become. Sores and irritation are sometimes possible but do not occur that often. ClearCorrect aligners can also temporarily affect the patient’s speech. However, most people adapt quickly to wearing the aligners, and their speech will rarely be impaired for an extended period of time.

Can I get ClearCorrect if I have missing teeth?

Getting ClearCorrect braces with a missing tooth is possible. However, they may be more successful in some cases than others. Talking to a qualified professional is the only way to be sure.

How do I keep the aligners clean?

ClearCorrect aligners are removable, which makes them easy to clean. Patients can clean them by rinsing the aligners with warm water and soap before putting them back in their mouths. We highly recommend patients practice proper oral hygiene while undergoing treatment to avoid tooth decay, periodontal disease, staining of the teeth, or inflammation of the gums.

How long do I have to wear the aligners?

ClearCorrect aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours a day and should only be removed when the patient wants to eat and brush their teeth. If they are not worn for 22 hours every day, the corrective process can be halted and begin to reverse within a few hours.

Do I have to wear a retainer after treatment is complete?

Patients must wear retainers after receiving treatment to prevent the teeth from moving back into their previous positions. The dentists will determine the length of time a patient wears their retainer.

Where can I get ClearCorrect treatment done?

If you are in Hackensack, you are in luck. We would be happy to see you and determine if you are a candidate. We will begin by taking full X-rays and conducting a physical examination.
